“Why I Advocate”

I was invited to meet with PBS for their Foster Change initiative, where I met with a lovely journalist who was tasked with spotlight child welfare transformational stories. The article below provides a handful of quotes from our 3 hour long conversation in a cute little coffee shop in OldTown Pasadena.

I love this piece because for the first time, a journalist wasn’t zooming into the tragedies of my past, but instead was discussing the technical skills I had to invent in the heat of survival. Although I see myself as a clever and witty survivor, I had never been cast this way. I had never been illustrated for my intelligence and craftiness. I am grateful to this journalist who saw the me that was present before her and held space for me, and in her reporting managed to illustrate alot more than just a sad story. Big shoutout to Ms. Lauren Gauthier. See below!
